Australia are through to the Davis Cup final for the second year in a row after ending Finland’s fairytale run in this year’s competition with a 2-0 win today.

Lleyton Hewitt’s team took a 1-0 lead in the semi-final after Alexei Popyrin defeated Otto Virtanen 7-6(5) 6-2 in the opening singles match. Popyrin rode the first set storm, sneaking the tiebreak before closing the match out in a one-sided second set.

In the second singles match, de Minaur delivered a fourth straight win in the Davis Cup Finals, defeating Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4 6-3. Australia now have a shot at redemption after falling at the final hurdle against Canada 12 months ago in the same stadium in Malaga.

Tomorrow’s semi-final clash between Italy and Serbia gets underway at 12:00 CET.
