WINS FOR DJOKOVIC AND SWIATEK ON DAY ONE AT PARIS 2024
Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek began their Olympic campaigns with straight-sets wins on a rainy opening day at Paris 2024 that saw only 10 matches completed. Carlos Alcaraz won two of those, adding a doubles victory alongside Rafael Nadal to his singles victory earlier in the day, while Angelique Kerber overcame Naomi Osaka to round off the day’s action.

DAY ONE QUOTES
Novak Djokovic (SRB): “I feel very good. I feel more ready now than I was before Wimbledon. I really do feel better prepared. Olympics from the beginning of the year was one of the highest goals and objectives and priorities for this year. Let’s see how it goes.”
Jasmine Paolini (ITA): “I really like to play with the crowd, with the energy, I hope it’s gonna help me. But I have to focus on myself. So it’s great when the crowd is cheering for you, but you know, at the end, you have to go there and fight everybody. It was a little bit different from the Grand Slams, because it was louder, I think, was more similar to Billie Jean King Cup. But I can understand, because you play for your country.”
Hady Habib (LBN): “I was smiling, I don’t know if you guys saw that. I was just incredibly surprised, and I got a little emotional. It’s such an honour to play on that court against such an amazing player and represent Lebanon, a small country which I adore. My dreams are coming true right now.”
Caroline Garcia (FRA): “The atmosphere was incredible, it was really very different from Roland Garros. We expected it, we knew it would be like that. There are no words to describe the support I received on Suzanne Lenglen, I can’t even imagine what it will be like if French athletes manage to perform well and go far in competitions.
“It’s a unique experience. Being able to experience the Olympic Games at home, especially in this stadium, I will remember it all my life. Feeling the support of the public from the first to the last point, no matter what happened on the court, that means a lot because it hasn’t always been an easy relationship in France.”
