Novak Djokovic (SRB): “I was just very proud to be part of this match. And I of course wanted to do my job on the court and really execute the game plan as much as I possibly can and not give him time, because if you give him time he can hurt you. We know that. I’ve experienced that in the past.”

Coco Gauff (USA): “It’s a very unique atmosphere here at the Olympics. I think the fans are obviously more passionate being a more patriotic event. Just everybody trying to root for their player hard. I think honestly it will suck if you lose but I feel like there’s a sense of pride, especially me being a first-time Olympian. It was one of the things I wanted to check off my list. Everything’s just like a plus from here. Obviously I want to win.”

Zheng Qinwen (CHN): “I love to play for my country. It’s a big honour for me because not everybody gets this opportunity. But, at the same time, you got a lot of pressure on you because not everybody gets to play Olympic Games. When you play for the country, there is extra motivation because when you lose for yourself, it’s just okay, you lose for yourself, next one, but when you lose for your country it’s another four years until you are there again.”

Casper Ruud (NOR): “I’m not going to say that I’m one of the big favourites but definitely I’m here because I would love to get a medal from my country.”
