“I want all the emo-punk hooks you could possibly cram into a single album. Luckily, Leisure Hour has arrived to fulfill that dream and more. The Sunny Side overflows the sort of snarky lyrics and buzzy music you’d expect from a Midwestern power trio. The group stands out from their peers by pairing their very 20-something energy with emotional intelligence that belies their age.”- Bearded Gentlemen Music

Muncie, Indiana emo rock trio Leisure Hour has signed with PNWK Records.

Leisure Hour formed in the summer of 2019, and released its latest album ‘The Sunny Side’ in June of 2024. The threesome will soon begin working on new music, which will serve as their PNWK label debut.

The band says, “We’re so excited to announce that we have officially signed with @pnwkrecords. We were fortunate enough to have our paths cross during Pt. 1 of our Sunny Side Album Release Tour and we’re even more fortunate to have met Sam and Robert (PNWK Records co-owners). Their energy, commitment and dedication to this scene and community is something truly remarkable. We have a lot of things planned out already and are looking forward to the start of a beautiful future together.”

In September, Leisure Hour is hitting the road again with their friends in Moosecreek Park. See dates below.

“We’re so excited to rock out with our best friends again and celebrate the amazing year we’ve had together! Catch us at a city near you.”

“(Leisure Hour) describes their music as emo rock and cited artists like The 1975, Paramore, and The Front Bottoms as inspiration. Early 2000s power pop and electronic 80s music also made the list as their muses for sound. However, they stood by the claim that their music is for everybody (more specifically “the girls and the gays”, declared confidently with a friendly laugh by bassist/vocalist Grace Dudas). Isaiah mentioned that their music had been previously compared to the feeling of dancing under a midwest town street light; there is a certain emphasis placed on concepts of youth and rejuvenation.”- WCRD

Leisure Hour is:

Raegan Gordon – DRUMS

Grace Dudas – VOCALS + BASS

Isaiah Neal – VOCALS + GUITAR
About Leisure Hour

“Everyone you love will end up dead,” Isaiah Neal sings on “Ivy Tech,” the second track from Leisure Hour’s latest release ‘The Sunny Side.’ It’s a matter-of-fact lyrics delivered in a matter-of-fact way––but a second later, Grace Dudas and Raegan Gordon join in to harmonize on a booming “whoa-oh-oh-oh” chorus. In the span of about three seconds, Leisure Hour’s whole ethos becomes clear. ‘The Sunny Side’ is the result of years of writing and recording, the culmination of a half-decade of lineup changes; by now, Leisure Hour’s reached their final form: bassist/vocalist Dudas, guitarist/vocalist Neal, and drummer/vocalist Gordon.

‘The Sunny Side,’ according to the band, is about “love, loss, and struggle with mental health as a middle class individual,” and maybe it was a case of life mimicking art. The three of them struggled to come up with enough money to record and produce these songs the way they envisioned; they picked up extra shifts at their jobs and, in true DIY fashion, decided to throw as many music festivals as they could to drum up enough cash to bring these songs to life, and “the community around us rallied together to make this album happen, and for that we are eternally grateful.”

That gratitude is the driving force behind ‘The Sunny Side.’ The eleven songs that comprise the record are built on shaky hopes and the anticipation of disappointment, but along with that comes a teeth-gritting resilience and a hard-won appreciation for those small victories. “I can’t forgive you,” Dudas sings at the end of “Forgiveness,” but she follows it quickly with “But I’m trying to,” and then she repeats it over and over. Maybe she’s just trying to convince herself, but it’s the effort that matters. Leisure Hour won’t stop looking on the sunny side anytime soon, and they’re trying their damnedest to convince you to do the same.
